Biography
Next Position after Training Completion: PhD Student in Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at University of Oxford.
Vasil Kostin is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and an Honorary Researcher at Oxford University, with a focus on the integration of artificial intelligence within ophthalmology, particularly in medical retina (AMD, Usher syndrome). Since 2019, he has been actively involved in MedTech/HealthTech work, creating innovative devices in various medical fields for which he has received national and international distinctions. He secured a prestigious grant as the youngest successful applicant from the Czech government’s highly competitive Program for applied research, experimental development, and innovation. He is the main founder of the Summer School of Practical Ophthalmology in Prague for European Universities. Beyond entrepreneurial ventures, Vasil has been actively engaged in humanitarian efforts, contributing to missions in Kenya and collaborating with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on the development of 3D printable insulin pens. Presently, his professional focus lies in the medical retina field and the application of AI methods in Ophthalmology at the Harvard Ophthalmology AI Lab under the supervision of Dr. Mengyu Wang.
