Dr. Mengyu Wang was awarded an MIT-MGB AI Cures grant titled “External Eye Photos for Diabetic Retinopathy Detection with Equity-Aware Deep Learning”. This project aims to develop cost-effective and fairness-aware AI screening models for diabetic retinopathy, which may particularly benefit minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups having limited access to ophthalmic care.
